Terms of Use
Effective 9 September 2026. Version 2026-09-09.2.
1. About these terms
1.1 These Terms of Use govern your use of OurStreets at ourstreets.app (the Service). The Service is operated by Tekodot Ltd, a company registered in Northern Ireland under company number NI724147, whose registered office is at Unit 1 Weavers Court, Linfield Road, Belfast, BT12 5GH, Northern Ireland (we, us or our).
1.2 You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. Before submitting a report, you will be asked to accept these terms and confirm that you meet this age requirement.
1.3 Our Privacy Policy explains how we process personal information. Acknowledging that policy does not constitute consent to optional analytics or marketing.
1.4 You may contact us at [email protected] or at the address above.
2. Purpose and limitations of the Service
2.1 OurStreets allows people to report harassment, assault, stalking and circumstances in which they have felt unsafe, and to view information derived from reports on a map. The Service is provided free of charge.
2.2 Reports are submitted by users. We do not independently verify each report. The number of reports in an area depends on participation and does not establish the prevalence of crime, the safety of that area or responsibility for any incident. An absence of reports does not mean that an area is safe.
2.3 The Service is not an emergency service and is not monitored for requests for urgent assistance. Submitting a report does not notify the police or initiate an investigation. In an emergency, contact the appropriate emergency service: 999 or 112 in the United Kingdom, 911 in the United States, or the emergency number for your location.
2.4 Map information is provided for general information. It should not be relied upon as a safety assessment, advice about an individual journey or a substitute for assistance from the appropriate authorities. This description of the Service does not limit our responsibility under section 8.
3. Submitting a report
3.1 A report must concern something you experienced or witnessed and must be accurate to the best of your knowledge and belief. You must not knowingly submit false information, impersonate another person or submit repeated reports intended to distort the map.
3.2 Do not include names, contact details, exact residential addresses or other information that identifies you or another person in a written description. You must not use reports to threaten, intimidate, defame or harass anyone, or to conduct a malicious campaign against a person, business or organisation. This does not prevent an honest report of an experience at a particular location.
3.3 You must not use automated tools to submit reports, evade submission limits or otherwise interfere with the operation or security of the Service.
3.4 Reports do not require an account, name or email address. This does not guarantee anonymity. The location, timing and circumstances of an incident may allow someone who has other information to recognise it. Please read the Privacy Policy before submitting a report.
4. Use of reports
4.1 To the extent that you hold intellectual property rights in a report, you retain those rights. You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce and process the report for operating, securing and improving the Service and producing the maps, statistics and summaries described in these terms and the Privacy Policy. We may permit our service providers to carry out those activities on our behalf. You do not transfer ownership of your report to us.
4.2 The public Service displays report counts by map area and may display the category, weekday and hour of recent reports. An area may contain a single report. We do not publish written descriptions, the exact submitted pin or the unrounded incident time through the public map or API.
4.3 We may publish statistics and summaries and make them available to public bodies, researchers or other organisations. Any additional sharing of personal information must have a lawful basis and be explained in the Privacy Policy. This licence does not authorise us to use personal information contrary to data protection law or override your statutory rights.
4.4 Deletion requests are addressed under the Privacy Policy. Removing a report from our systems may not remove information already copied by others or statistics that no longer contain personal information.
5. Moderation, removal requests and complaints
5.1 We may withhold, restrict or remove a report where we reasonably believe it breaches these terms, creates a privacy or safety risk, is unlawful or forms part of abusive or automated activity. We may apply proportionate submission limits to protect the Service. Submission does not guarantee publication.
5.2 You may request the removal or restriction of a report by emailing [email protected], including where you believe it is inaccurate, unlawful, identifies a person, creates a privacy or safety risk, or otherwise breaches these terms. You do not need to have submitted the report to raise a concern. Include the relevant page link or map area and, if known, the report's displayed category and time. Explain your concern and the action you are requesting. Do not send unnecessary personal information or identification documents.
5.3 We will assess the request and may ask for further information needed to locate the report or understand the concern. We may temporarily withhold a report while reviewing it and will remove or restrict it where required by law or where we reasonably consider this appropriate under section 5.1. We will inform you of the outcome, subject to the privacy and security limitations in section 5.4. A request does not automatically result in removal. This process does not limit your data protection rights or other legal remedies.
5.4 If you disagree with a moderation decision, you may ask us to reconsider it using the same contact address. We will consider the information you provide. We may limit the detail we disclose where disclosure would compromise another person's privacy, security measures or a legal obligation.
6. Permitted use and intellectual property
6.1 You may access the Service for personal, non-commercial use and share links to its public pages. Rights in the Service and its content belong to us or the relevant rights holders. Third-party map data and other materials remain subject to their applicable licences and attribution requirements.
6.2 Except where permitted by law or an applicable third-party licence, you must not systematically extract, republish or sell the map data without our written permission. Journalists, researchers, public bodies and others seeking permission for wider use should contact us.
6.3 You must not attempt to identify a reporter or another individual from the Service, combine its information with other sources for that purpose, introduce malicious software or attempt unauthorised access to our systems.
7. Availability and changes to the Service
7.1 We will exercise reasonable care and skill in providing the Service. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or that user-submitted information will be complete or accurate.
7.2 We may change, suspend or discontinue all or part of the Service for maintenance, security, legal requirements or reasonable operational reasons. Where a change will materially affect users, we will give reasonable notice where practicable. Immediate action may be necessary to address an urgent security, safety or legal issue.
8. Our responsibility for loss or damage
8.1 If we breach these terms or fail to exercise reasonable care and skill, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of that breach or failure. Loss or damage is foreseeable if it is an obvious consequence or if both you and we knew it might occur when you accepted these terms.
8.2 We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not foreseeable. As the Service is provided for personal, non-commercial use, we are not responsible under these terms for business losses, including loss of business profits, revenue, opportunities or anticipated savings.
8.3 Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Nothing in these terms restricts your rights or remedies under applicable consumer or data protection law.
9. Changes to these terms
9.1 We may amend these terms to reflect changes to the Service, legal requirements or reasonable operational needs. We will publish the revised terms with their effective date and give reasonable notice of material changes where practicable. Urgent legal or security changes may take effect sooner.
9.2 We will ask you to accept material changes before you next submit a report. Changes will not retrospectively remove rights you have already acquired. If you do not agree to revised terms, you may stop using the Service.
10. Applicable law and disputes
10.1 These terms are governed by the law of Northern Ireland. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you retain the protection of any mandatory laws of your country of residence that apply to you.
10.2 You may bring proceedings in the courts of Northern Ireland or, where you are a consumer, in the courts of your country of residence. We will bring proceedings against you as a consumer only in your country of residence, unless applicable law permits otherwise.
10.3 Please contact us if you have a complaint about the Service. This does not prevent you from exercising a legal right or bringing proceedings.
11. General provisions
11.1 If a provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply to the extent that they can operate independently. A delay in exercising a right does not amount to a waiver of that right.
11.2 No provision of these terms is intended to give a person other than you and us a right to enforce it under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999. This does not affect rights available under other applicable law.
